I did a personal interview with Graham Findley from 3G Engergy of Ottawa.
"Getting involved is easy – first, go to the FIT review OPA website and answer the survey (2yearFITreview@ontario.ca), stating your wish to have more renewable energy on the grid, plus more renewable energy ideas to be allowed (geothermal, storage, etc). This is key because the province needs to hear from everybody that the program is desirable, as well as about the need to change features. Some background commentary is attached in Mario Fraser’s work."
To get started you need to submit an application to the Ontario Power Authority.
You do this at their website. When you register you will be given a webpage called “my microFIT homepage”
You will submit your application through their homepage and if your application is approved you will be sent a microFIT contract.
Once your application has been approved you can then build and connect your project. Once your project has been built and connected you will sign your 20 year contract and start making money.
The home-owner is responsible for the construction costs for the for your power project.
If you have a roof mount you will be paid 80.2¢/kWh.
For a ground mounted solar system you will be paid 64.2¢/kWh.
For a 10kw Roof mount system the annual income potential would be $10, 000 per year.
The cost to put a 10kw Roof mount would be around $58,000.
Over the period life time of the contract a homeowner could earn around $140,000.
There are a lot of resources for to learn more, a simple Google search for the word Ontario microFIT will return many results from businesses that sell solar panels and as well as various hydro utilities.
There is no travel needed to participate, you can get started from the comfort of your home office.
